Talent Description (Brief Bio Describing You and Your Talent) :
Jerald Dunn was born in Augusta Georgia; He began playing the drums at the tender age of 5 and played for many years. This was just the beginning of his lifelong love of music. He began singing in the youth choir and it was not long before he landed his first solo performance. As a gospel singer herself, Jerald’s mother was his biggest champion and extremely proud of him. Even though Jerald’s beloved mother is no longer with us, Jerald continues to be inspired by different genres of music due to her influence.
Jerald has also had his love of music fed and inspired by his mentors and band teachers; Sherry Puryear, Charles Burton and Richard Mason. It was in the sixth grade that he was introduced to the tenor saxophone. At that young age, Jerald began to realize that he’d been blessed with an exceptional talent and gift. Although he’s had to overcome some bumps in the road of life, such as the passing of his beloved mother and surviving and triumphing a kidney transplant, Jerald has never lost his passion for music. He has also been influenced by other artists including John P. Kee, Kirk Whalum, J Moss, Whitney Houston, James Brown, Gerald Albright, Grover Washington, Kenny G, John Coltrane, Michael Jackson, and Kelly Price. And that’s just to name few!
Jerald’s musical blessings have continued into his adult life with many opportunities to participate in plays such as the gospel play “The Lost Son,” featuring actors Terrell Carter, Ahmad Jamal McGhee and Little G Gary who has worked with Tyler Perry, At the Point,” and The Vignettes of life under The Hallelujah workshop directed by Dr. Tangela Wideman Foster.. Jerald has been interviewed by Pastor Tracy Wells on Let’s Talk 57. Jerald is now back in the studio working on a new neo-soul gospel jazz CD called “Journey Back to Life,” based on his reflections of his life experiences.
